The Project supports 46 homeless young people aged 16-25 years. The Project is based at 2 Central Avenue, there are eleven rooms for young people who require high levels of support. These are intended for as first stage move on properties for young people with less support needs to prepare them for their own tenancy. The main building is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. The Project also has an on call service and Wi-Fi access. The main building has two communal lounges with TV’s, several communal shower rooms, toilets, laundry room and two communal kitchens. Each bedroom is fully furnished and includes a fridge freezer, sink, bedding, laundry basket and cutlery. The Project also has an on call service.
All properties are no smoking, however there are designated areas in the garden of each property.
In addition to the main building the Project provides accommodation in five ‘outer houses’ nearby for a total of eighteen young people. Each property houses either 3 or 4 young people with shared communal lounge, kitchen and bathroom. These are intended for as first stage move on properties for young people with less support needs to prepare them for their own tenancy. The properties are monitored by staff regularly, they all have CCTV and young people have access to support from the staff at the main building 24 hrs a day if needed.
This property has 8 self-contained flats, we provide intensive support to the young people that live in these. The Project has two intensive support workers that are based in the building who provide an individual tailored support package that is devised for each individual Looked after Child who are 16 -18 years. All flats are fully furnished and we provide all the necessities that someone would need to move in and live comfortable with immediate effect.
The staff adapt their working hours to suit the young person’s schedule and needs, staff are available for drop in sessions and informal chats. This has proved to ensure that relationships between the staff members and young person is quickly established.
Park Lodge Project also has five bedroomed property which and supports Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children which are commissioned by Leicester City Council.
The young people are supported intensively on their arrival to ensure they feel safe and settled as quickly as possible. They are taken to the local amenities and places of worship (if appropriate) so as to enable them to assimilate into the local community and UK culture so as not to feel isolated. This integration especially with other young people at Park Lodge Project also helps them to build confidence in their spoken English language skills, as many young asylum seekers are often not fluent with the English language.
Park Lodge Project in addition has a further four self-contained properties and supports four Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children which are commissioned by a local authority.
