Park Lodge Project provides a course “Managing Your Own Home” (MYOH) This is designed to prepare residents for the move on process to their own tenancies.
The sessions are different topics each week, and the topics are relating to moving on into your own tenancy and various skills that would help enable you to maintain a tenancy.
Any resident of Park Lodge who is interested can attend, but the ‘Managing Your Own Home’ sessions are specifically aimed at residents who are ready to begin the resettlement process, i.e. have turned 18, or are about to turn 18, and have already filled out, or are about to fill out application forms for Leicester City Council, and housing associations, so should be moving into their own accommodation in the near future.
The course is intended to help you to develop skills and knowledge about improving your general life skills, personal and social awareness, and managing your tenancy. This will enable you to prepare yourself for independent living, so you know what you need to do when you move, and in the long-term and give you the skills to help you maintain independent accommodation.
The topics that we cover include
- Viewing a property
- Bills and utilities
- Dealing with Neighbours
- Rights and Responsibilities of being a tenant
The specific learning outcomes of the MYOH course are as follows:
- To improve the life skills necessary for residents to manage and maintain independent or semi-independent living.
- To increase young people’s confidence and self-esteem.
- To increase young people’s basic literacy and numeracy skills.
