The Management Committee

PLP is registered as a charity and, as such and by law, has to have a board of trustees. We call ours a Management Committee (MC). Each member is elected to serve for three years after which they can choose to stand for further terms. All members of the MC give their time freely and receive no benefits from the charity.

They bring to the project specialist skills and experience, including youth and community work, local government, health, organisational management, law and finance.

The MC meets every six weeks to discuss and agree the broad strategy for the Project and explore further areas of activity. It considers reports on developments from managers and examples of case studies that illustrate the work of project staff. It is responsible for ensuring that sufficient and sustainable funding is found for the project and that resources are used wisely. It is also responsible for making sure that policies and procedures are in place that ensure the health, safety and welfare of staff and residents; and that our practices comply with charity and other laws.

We are always looking for new members to join the MC especially people with relevant experience to bring to bear. The work is interesting but not too onerous. Apart from the regular meetings, there are occasional things we can do to help such as appointing staff, attending meetings of providers in the city, and supporting activities involving staff and residents. The most important quality we look for in MC members is a commitment to the aims and working methods of the Project and to ensuring they are achieved as effectively as possible.
